Mai Dao

Mai is a warm and empathic Clinical Psychologist who is dedicated to providing clients with high quality evidence-based psychological therapy, which is collaborative and tailored to the individual.

Mai provides psychological assessment and therapy services for adults dealing with: depression, bipolar disorder, worry and generalised anxiety, panic attacks, obsessions and compulsions (OCD), social anxiety, phobias, trauma (PTSD), low self-esteem, perfectionism, eating and body image issues, relationship and family issues, work stress and adjustment to life changes.

Mai specialises in couples and sex therapy and supporting clients through adjustment and distress related to medical issues including cancer.

With over fourteen years of experience as a Clinical Psychologist, Mai has worked in various settings including hospital and community crisis intervention teams, community mental health teams, hospital cancer services and private practice.

Throughout Mai’s private practice work over the past eight years she has serviced Sydney’s CBD and its diverse inner city communities. She is highly experienced in supporting clients working in high pressure corporate environments, helping them to thrive in their work and relationships and maintain life balance. Mai has also worked broadly with the LGBTQI+ communities.

Mai has also worked in quaternary public teaching hospitals, with extensive experience in caring for patients with cancer. She has experience in supporting clients with solid organ and haematological malignancies, providing support to clients and their families at all stages of their cancer journey, from diagnosis, through treatment, survivorship, and in palliative care. Mai has also worked with Cancer Genetics clients and had the opportunity to work with rural, remote, interstate and overseas clients who have travelled to Sydney to receive cancer treatment. She has worked with and facilitated breast cancer support groups, prostate cancer support groups, survivorship groups and has been involved in teaching and training medical students, junior doctors and other clinical staff about psycho-social issues related to cancer.

Mai aims to provide clients with both emotional validation and change strategies and draws on her skills in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Gottman Relationship Therapy, Schema Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).
